Review: Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I approached the evening with trepidation – I had never been to the venue and having read some of the previous reviews about the backing musicians being “too loud” – was not sure what to expect. The Jamclub was an intimate setting and the show was well attended. It was good to get so close to the band. Don was FANTASTIC – and what made the show so memorable was the fact that he actually appeared relaxed and enjoying the night himself. I have never seen him look so at ease. The voice was as good as ever , (some adjustment to sound levels in the first couple of numbers) – and Don stayed on stage for over an hour and a half without a break. I lost count of the tracks he was singing as I got more absorbed by the atmosphere – but the classics of Vincent, Castles in the Air, Crying, Jerusalem and of course American Pie, were all well received. The mood was high – the band were loud but did not drown out Don – and I left with a feeling of euphoria and joy that my favourite singer songwriter of thirty years was still delivering a thrilling evening….Interested to see how Leicester will compare on Sunday in a more traditional setting !
