The Pyramid Stage crowd area was packed with approximately 100,000 Glastonbury fans joining Don singing American Pie, but they loved the whole set with Love in my Heart and Crying also getting a huge response.

Winter has Glastonbury in its grip

This picture from the BBC webcam at Glastonbury doesn’t really do today’s wet and cold weather full justice. The thermometer is unlikely to break 11 degrees C and there has already been 20mm of rain…

Let’s hope for a better June day in two weeks time when Don McLean headlines the daytime schedule on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

Don McLean comments on Glastonbury and his UK tour

“I am looking forward to all my shows in June on my mini UK tour. Of special interest is the show at Hampton Court (I am fascinated by Henry VIII) and topped off by the Glastonbury Festival, which is an honor for me. The British public has been my great friend for 40 years.”

Don McLean will appear on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 26th June and before that he completes a short tour around the UK and Ireland. This follows on from his full UK and European tour last year.

Don McLean Glastonbury 2011

We have been subject to a news embargo about Don McLean’s appearance but it has now been confirmed. Glastonbury followers and the British media are buzzing with the news.
Don says “I’m going to be playing at the biggest music festival in the world at Glastonbury, so there’s going to be nothing but crazy kids out there. And there’s a reason why I’m there. Go figure.”Don will be appearing on the Sunday of the festival. He will be starring on the pyramid (main) stage and an audience of around 130,000 could join in on “American Pie” plus potentially millions watching live on BBC television.

Glastonbury is the biggest music festival in the world and this will be Don’s biggest ever gig. He is assured of ultimate triumph thanks to American Pie but we hope his whole set captures the imagination of a new generation.
